COVID-19 Image

Friends and family of Camp Northward,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May you have peace and joy by the power of the One who is in you during this challenging time. COVID-19 has impacted nearly every aspect of our society and lives, and camp is no exception. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters. Over the past several months we have had to make difficult decisions to cancel certain events and camp sessions. As we have continued to closely monitor the government’s response to COVID-19, the re-opening of the state, and how Camp Northward might be affected, we have come to another important decision.

On Monday evening, May 11, Camp Northward’s Board of Trustees met to discuss our 2020 summer sessions and came to the consensus that the most prudent and wise decision is to cancel all scheduled summer camp sessions for the summer of 2020. This call was not made lightly, and much discussion and prayer were involved. We believe it was important to make this decision to protect the health and safety of our campers and their families, our volunteers, and our staff. We are deeply saddened to make this announcement, and we know this will be a great disappointment to our campers. We will greatly miss seeing you this summer!

As we continue through the year, we ask that you keep the camp in your prayers. While we may not be hosting campers this summer, that does not mean that the ministry of Camp Northward is canceled or on hold; our focus is simply shifting. This summer we will focus on physical projects for the enhancement of our property and the improvement of future programming. We will also be exploring ways in which we can be an encouragement to our supporting churches and a resource for campers. As we look to the near future, we are hoping to provide events and retreats for campers of all ages this fall. Of course, we don’t know what this will look like or when it will be possible, but as soon as it is safe to do so, we intend to provide the opportunity for youth to connect with each other and be encouraged, strengthened, and equipped! As time goes on and we gain more information, we will communicate our upcoming schedule as we are able.

We understand that many families are facing job loss or a significant decrease in income. Some of our churches are also experiencing financial hardship. You are in our hearts and prayers, and we do not wish to further burden you. However, we also want to honestly communicate our needs to those who may be able to help. Some of our expenses will not be as high since we are not hosting camps, but many expenses are unavoidable and will continue regardless of summer camp being cancelled. We are implementing measures to cut costs, but we anticipate having a greater need at this time as churches and families who regularly give to Camp Northward also experience financial strain. If you have not been negatively affected from a financial standpoint by COVID-19 and are in a position to do so, we ask that you prayerfully consider supporting the ministry of Camp Northward through giving a donation during this unique time. Your gift will help us maintain the camp both now and long-term.

Refunds will be made available to those who have already made a tuition deposit for summer camp this year; more information about that will be sent directly to those pre-registered. We are also providing a free t-shirt (While supplies last!) with our 2020 summer logo to all campers, even if they had not yet registered for camp this summer. You can request this FREE t-shirt by filling out a simple form on our website at www.campnorthward.org/COVID-19/t-shirt.

Please join us in praying for our campers, volunteers, donors, churches, and their communities. We are all in this together and trust that God will continue to lead us and provide during these times. Thank you for your continued support of our ministry.

In Christ,

Nathan Derico
